Alternatives to sympa:

schleuder: gpg-enabled mailing list, under active development.
groupserver: a full yahoogroups and more replacement. still under development. runs on zope.
mailman: most commonly used mailing list manager. traditionally ugly, clunky, and limited. written in python.
